Faith Talks | God’s Love & Wrath by Ryan Macklin

People will spend years and years of their life trying to understand God, without success.

The truth is, the great expanse of our knowledge and understanding as humans could still never come close to fully comprehending just how amazing God is.

Many fail to understand how a God that sees our very nature as sinful, can love us at the same time. How a God that allows us to walk through difficult circumstances, is the same God that will carry us through it. How can it possibly be that the same God who created the entire universe that knows every one of us by name? The answer is quite simple – love.

The very essence of a relationship with God, is understanding the balance between his love, and his wrath. He created us to love us, and for us to love him back. But it isn’t as simple as that, there is a certain standard that needs to be followed.

This is where people get stuck, they see all the things that God tells them they aren’t supposed to do, things that are often the only thing we want to do as humans. But they fail to see the bigger picture.

God didn’t create this standard of living, just because he can. God loves you, and he knows what is best for your life. Simple as that.

He is a God of justice, which is clear in his word:

“Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” – Galatians 5: 19-21

The word ‘Gospel’, simply means ‘Good News’, and the good news is this – Jesus died for those mistakes. The sin in our life has a high price, but it has already been paid.

When we learn to follow God and his ways, we begin to see the benefit of watching our tongue, rather than cursing to fit in, the benefit of waiting until marriage before we have a sexual relationship with our girlfriends/boyfriends, and loving others, who would otherwise be persecuted. The fact is, the only life worth living, is a life aligned with Gods holy standard.

Now the question remains, if that is all we need to know, and it is not our responsibility to fully understand God, how could we ever follow him wholeheartedly? This is where the most personal aspect of it all comes in – faith.

Why do Christians choose to believe and follow something that they can never fully understand? Because God is still working in our lives today, and this is what begins to grow unshakeable faith.

God did the hard bit for us, all we have to know is that he loves us, and it is because of that love that he did what he did and does what he does. All we have to do, is love him, trust in him, and live by his standard.

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, and the conviction of things not seen” – Hebrews 11: 1Headshots
